Make a step wedge first to determine exposure. I did this one at 50M. => |

After making your best guess from the step wedge, make a partial print of your image. Use a strip or a quarter sheet to save money. => |

I felt this was much too flat so upped the magenta to 80 and did it again. => |

From that second partial print I made my best guess on time and contrast for a full-sized print. => |
print one |
That print came out too light and not evenly exposed from side to side. So for my second try I backed down to 70M, added a couple seconds, and did some burning on the corners and left side of frame. => |

Once you're happy with a print from a particular roll of film, you can try this same time and magenta setting on another image (if it looks similar on the contact sheet). Put in the second negative, focus, and frame up in the speed easel. First try a quarter sheet at the same settings (f-stop, magenta, and enlarger height). If this turns out good, bang out a full sheet next. |
