Dades Valley

abandoned qsar at Assaka on Dades River
looking North at the High Atlas (3,500 - 4,000 meters), in early Spring

Melting snow from the High Atlas provides water for this ancient edge-of-the-Sahara civilization.  Streams from the mountains feed the Dades and then Dra'a rivers, and the underground flow of melted snow occasionally comes near the surface, where wells have been dug to create sustain agriculture and oasis villages.
