Continued: the former Ohio & Mississippi in Southern Indiana (4/6)

202 and 203: West End Mitchell Siding (local with wagon-top)

This is an eastbound B&O local train taking the siding into Mitchell, Indiana.
The first image is badly backlit, but one can make out the GP7 leading the way
along with the distinctive CPL standing along side. The second unit is equipped
with torpedo tubes for passenger service—most likely a GP9. As I turn toward the
east for the second picture, we can now clearly see the distinctive “wagon top”
caboose bringing up the rear. This car was most likely built in 1945.
Two photographs taken September 11th 1976.

3707-2: West End Mitchell Siding, from Old 37 overpass

Here's that same train we saw in the Mitchell Yard (with 3707 on point);
we'll see it again at Georgia. One image taken mid- to late-1970s.

194a: West End Mitchell Siding, from Old 37 overpass

This is the train we saw east of Mitchell (in color, with GP35 on point); we'll see it again
at Georgia (and beyond) in the images below. One image taken March 7th 1976.

195: West of Mitchell

Here's a backlit shot of an eastbound train approaching the new 37
overpass just west of Mitchell. One image taken March 14th 1976.

3707-3 and 3707-4: East End Georgia

Here are two more shots of the westbound train with 3707 on point.
Two images taken in the mid- to late-1970s.

194b: East End Georgia

Continuing our sequence of train with GP35 number 3546 on point, this image was made with the train
approaching Georgia Siding. This is one of my favorite pictures made along the line, with code line,
silo, and FORD truck all present. One image taken March 7th 1976.

223, 224, and 225: West End Georgia

A wait, and then a meet: the crew on a westbound job on the Baltimore & Ohio in southern Indiana (former Ohio
& Mississippi) waits at the west end of Georgia Siding. Not too much later, an eastbound manifest blasts by.

The lead locomotive on the waiting train, number 6900, is the class unit for the road’s GP30s; this locale
is just west of Mitchell, Indiana. The doll arm on the signal mast tells us that the signal governs the main,
not the siding that holds the westbound waiting train. [There is most likely a dwarf signal for the siding,
which we can’t see here.] Three images taken May 7th 1977.
